Pricing using Price Groups for Doors

The choice of doors affects the price of the cabinet and, rather than have each door priced on its area, a simpler approach is to group the door prices.

The Price Group feature allows a cabinet in the catalog to have several (up to 11) fixed costs - one for when there are no doors and then up to 10 other prices depending on the chosen Door Price Group.

Using this facility each door material can have a defaultPrice Group’, which is automatically applied to the drawing. The Price Group for each cabinet uses this default unless otherwise selected. In addition, each cabinet itself has a set of costs, one for each Price Group.

Default Price Groups for Door Materials

Each door material can have a default Door Price Group associated with it (a whole number between 0 and 10).

In the Materials Manager there are two places this information can be entered;

1. Legacy setups of CabMaster – you will need to enter the Door Price group in the Part Number field of the Manager, but you will to “PriceCode=X” where X is the Group you want it to select, 0 being None, and 1-10 are the Groups you have named and priced.

2. Newer setups of CabMaster – you can enter the same information as before, but you just need to enter the number from 0-10 in this field.

If no default exists, then the system will apply Group 1 as the default.

Legacy vs New: in the CabMaster files and folders in the background there is a table in use for the materials called “Materials.qlt” which is located in the \Table\ folder, the Legacy setups do not contain a column heading called “PriceCode” in the newer setups they can contain this column heading. In all cases if this column is not present then the “PartNumber” column can handle the PriceCode information as described above in the Legacy setting 1.

Drawing/Catalog Defaults and Settings

The Door Price Groups facility (illustrated on RHS) is only invoked when ‘Fixed Price option is ticked (as illustrated below) on the Pricing/Markups page.
Pricing Groups for Doors

Using the ‘Price Group’ options you can select:

            1. Whether or not to use Door Price Groups – tick on.
            2. How many groups you are using i.e. 1-10
            3. Whether or not to use the price groups even if not door is present.
            4. The names of each of the groups. Refer to discussion below on Naming Price Groups

In order to setup your default price group, you will need to go to the Materials-Advanced on the Door Options Page.

            1. Upper is the Wall cabinet doors default price group.
            2. Lower is the Wardrobe, Tall and Floor cabinet doors default price group.

This becomes the default for the entire Catalog/Drawing.

Naming Price Groups

When the ‘Use Price Groups’ option is applied i.e. ticked, then you will be able to add descriptive names to each of the price groups.

Each of the 10 groups should have a unique name, to represent a different type of door, ie Gloss, Satin, Textured, Vinyl Wrapped, 2Pac Painted.

Setting Price Group Values

In order to set the price value of each Group you will need to be in the Library Catalog Manger, and open a cabinet, Under the Pricing tab, Price Group page, you will see the Set Up Prices for all the groups you have made available.

These values are unique to every cabinet, so you will need to edit all cabinets that are going to use the Door Price Groups – the default value is 0 if you have not provided one.

Pricing Groups for Doors

The relevant ‘Price Group’ can then be applied to each cabinet as per example below.

Pricing Groups for Doors

Prices are set for each cabinet within the Catalog on the 'Price Group' page of the 'Pricing' category.

Pricing Groups for Doors

Example

Follow the following instruction to create Door Price for a ‘Floor Standard’ cabinet.

1. First you need to do is ensure that ‘Fixed Price option is ticked on the Pricing/Markups page.

2. Then turn on the ‘Use Price Groups’ option on the ‘Price Groups’ page.
As shown here, you can then type in a descriptive name for each 'Group' i.e. Group 1 = Laminate and Group 2 = Gloss for this example.

3. Now select the ‘Floor Standard’ cabinet in the Catalog and as illustrated:

Pricing Groups for Doors
  1. Set the Price Group on the Doors page of the Materials category to ‘Laminate’ [Group 1]
  2. Set Fixed Cost to $350
  3. Set Price Group 1 [Laminate] to $40 and Group 2 [Gloss] as $50
Notice that the Group 1 [Laminate] price of $40 is added to the Fixed Cost [Base Price] $350 = Fixed Sell of $390.00.

NOTE: ‘Reset to Defaults’ is used if you have typed in new prices and then, before clicking on ‘Apply’ you realise that these are incorrect i.e. reset to prices that were on this page prior to entering new data.

4. Open a ‘New Drawing’

NOTE: Changes to the Catalog only affect future drawings.

Result

Since we have set as per above:
            $350 as the Fixed Cost
$40 as the cost of Door Price Group 1 [Laminate]
$50 as the cost of Door Price Group 2 [Gloss]

The price of the cabinet will be:
$350 with no Price Group selected
            $390 with Group 1 selected
            $400 with Group 2 selected

As shown below for a Floor Standard set at cabinet level with
            v   001 <None>
            v   002 <Laminate>
            v  003 <Gloss>

Pricing Groups for Doors

So, selecting the cabinet with a Door Price Group of 1 Laminate costs at $350(Fixed Cost)+$40(additional cost using Group 1) = $390.

Additional Notes

If the properties of the cabinet (such as its width) are amended whilst on a drawing this does not affect the cost as it is based on the cabinet's original code as defined in the catalog. The only exception to this is when doors are totally removed. The price used in this case is just the base Fixed Price with no addition for Door Price Group (unless you have selected to apply the pricing group even if doors are removed).

The Door Price Group table is an MS Access format table called 'DoorPrice' found in database file '...\Table\DoorPrice.mdb'. It can be updated directly if you have the necessary skill to do so. However users do not have to get into the MS Access table. The updating is automatically done as you enter the pricing details in for each cabinet as it is edited in the Library Catalog Manager. In the catalog you get a Pricing|Price Group page for each cabinet after this is edited the database is updated automatically.
