Create Slotted Shelf Cabinet

Summary

This guide will step through the creation of a Slotted Shelf which can be used for shoes, wine, or any other shelving that requires cutouts in the shelf.

Requirements

CabMaster Pro V11.1 or later (Machining Premium or higher)

Steps

Part 1 - Setup Drawing

1. Download the below SMZ Tables Installer file (attached bottom of this guide).

2. Install the SMZ file using the StoreMaster installer link in the latest CabMaster, or using the CabMaster Table Installer.

3. With the Custom Table now installed, Enable and label your Local Properties in the Drawing Properties, under My Setup.

4. Setup the Local Property Values for your drawing, under Job Setup.
The below example has 11 cutouts at 45mm wide, cutting through the shelf, and spaced 50mm from the BACK and FRONT of the Shelf.

5. Apply and close your Drawing Properties.

Part 2 - Setup the Cabinet

1. In Plan View or List View, place a Universal cabinet of any type, and set your Area to Shelves. Doors are optional.

2. Navigate to your Area for Shelves, and setup the shelves (spacing, angle, fixed, etc)

Idea
A shelf Lip can be added just below the Shelf Options

3. Head up to the Cabinet Machining -> Custom section in the Cabinet Properties, and set the SHELF to apply the Custom Machining Table called Shelf Slot Groves.

4. Now you can view your cabinet, with slotted shelves, in your favorite view.

Cabinet and Machining Tips

Tip 1 - On Cabinet Adjustments

If you need to adjust settings on a per-cabinet basis, then you can adjust the Cabinet's Local Properties to adjust the settings.

Tip 2 - Apply Groves Top of Shelf

By default, most parts are machined from the bottom or a less visible side. For a shelf, that is the bottom.
When only applying the grove, swap the face the machining is applied to. In this example we are using Fixed Shelves, but the same can be set for Adjustable Shelves.

Tip 3 - How to Machine in EzyNest or EnRoute

The shelf grove uses LED Rebate as the toolpath, so in your ATP, depending on your tool diameter and slot width, an Island Fill or Internal-Offset are the two recommended methods.
 > Internal-Offset is great for smaller slots, or wide slots that cut all the way through.
 > Island Fill is ideal to get nice tight corners (tool dependant), at any depth or width.
